Modern insecticidal gels are quite effective and convenient means to fight cockroaches. Practice and reviews of ordinary people show that gels in general work more reliably than self-made poisonous baits for cockroaches and sticky traps, while they are safer to use than, say, dusty (fine powdered poison) or various aerosols.
At the same time, any gel from cockroaches has its clearly defined scope. In certain cases, the drug helps to completely rid an apartment or house of pests, but sometimes it is rational to combine it with other means in order to achieve the maximum result.
Today the market has a large number of insecticidal gels: Raptor, Brownie Proshka, Globol,Dohlox, Fumitoks, Magic drops, Trap, Exil, Fas, Cuts and many more, and they differ far not only by name - they can differ in composition, price, and packaging features (for example, syringe or plastic tube) .
Let's see how, depending on the degree of contamination of the apartment with cockroaches, to use insecticidal gels correctly to achieve maximum efficiency, which one should be preferred when buying and how to combine this type of drug with other means, if the need arises ...
Feedback:
“We had to poison cockroaches in a new house. It was just amazing that they settled down here before us. We moved in the summer and in the first days began to notice insects. There were not many of them, I decided to poison them with gel. Bought inexpensive means House Proshka, there in packing one syringe with translucent gel. Husband around the perimeter of the kitchen smeared them with a plinth. It seems that no one should get dirty, but then I noticed that the sneakers still stuck to the floor. It seemed to me that the gel was watery — if you put a drop on the surface, after a minute it spreads into a liquid spot, although I thought that the gel retains its shape. But it is not important.It is important that the next day we again saw a live cockroach, I was ready to give up on the tool. And then after a few more days, we noticed that cockroaches no longer caught the eye. Husband a couple of times specially got up at night, went to the kitchen to check - indeed, there are no cockroaches. It seems that with a single syringe of gel we won the cockroaches. I hope that they will not come again ... "

How do insecticidal gels work?
Inherently insecticidal gel is a poisoned bait, attractive for cockroaches (and often for domestic ants too) and having a texture that is convenient for applying to various surfaces.
The bulk of the gel is water and the food base with aromatic additives (attractants), thanks to which insects find a means and actively eat it. The main active ingredient of the drug is a highly active insecticide, and sometimes a combination of insecticides, which, getting into the digestive tract of an insect, quickly lead to the death of the pest.
Thus, the gel works very simply and efficiently: it attracts cockroaches with its smell, insects eat it and die.
On a note
Different gels look and smell differently. Some, for example, colorless and transparent, may have a pronounced vanilla smell, others are milky white, and there are also dark ones that look like chocolate. In any case, these tools are usually more attractive to cockroaches than simple food, which is, say, on the kitchen table.
In modern gels from cockroaches, insecticides of different classes can be used: phenylpyrazoles (fipronil), pyrethroids (cypermethrin, deltamethrin, lambda-cygalothrin), organophosphorus compounds (chlorpyrifos), neonicotinoids, etc. They all had a nerve-paralytic effect on a game, they went to a program, they went to a program, and a program was applied to a game. the effectiveness of these products: insects die within a few hours after consuming a lethal dose of the drug, and in practice - within a few days after applying the gel on the surface in the area enii.
At the same time, the poisoning effectiveness of the gels in relation to cockroaches is very high. For example, in one drop of gel Brownie, Trap or Deadly force contains a dose of insecticide, theoretically capable of killing more than a hundred cockroaches, and one tube means enough to poison about a million insects.However, in practice, such efficiency is never achieved, since each cockroach usually eats more gel than is enough for poisoning, and a lot of gel in the apartment just dries up, and not being eaten by pests.
It should be noted that the insecticides used in the composition of the gels equally effectively kill not only cockroaches, but also domestic ants, silverfish, woodlice - and indeed, any insects that take it into their heads to eat.
On a note
When testing fipronil in locusts near Lake Baikal, in 24 hours, the drug destroyed 87% of the pest population (many millions of individuals). At the same time it was used in the open air and was applied to fodder plants - this technique differs from the method of application of the gel, but in general the example shows how effective modern insecticides are.
Another important component of some gels is specially added bitterness (bitrex). It is added to the drug so that if you accidentally find the gel is not eaten by pets or children: taking a very bitter product in your mouth, they will spit it out and will not swallow it. At the same time, cockroaches do not feel bitterness and willingly consume the poison with it.
Auxiliary components in the composition of the gels are usually preservatives, thickeners (gelling agents) and stabilizers. They provide the consistency of the drug and the ability for a sufficiently long time not to dry, although in different gels these properties can vary greatly: some dry quickly, some are too liquid.
In general, gels differ in composition, appearance, packaging and price, and often the differences between the individual means are quite large.
Brands and types of gels
All gels for the fight against cockroaches can be divided into groups according to the active substance and the method of packaging.
Of the active ingredients today, fipronil is considered the most effective. This insecticide was developed specifically to control insects that have developed resistance to some other synthetic insecticides., and today there are still no populations of cockroaches that would have had resistance to fipronil.
However, preparations based on neonicotinoids, pyrethroids and organophosphate also retain in most cases high efficacy. If the situation in the apartment is not very neglected and the cockroaches live here for decades,if we end up hounding by all possible means, then, most likely, a gel based on these active ingredients will be quite effective against them.
Some gels from cockroaches are sold in tubes, some - in syringes. In general, it is more convenient to apply preparations in syringes, since practically all means can be squeezed out of the syringe without additional efforts, to the last drop. In a tube, however, part of the gel will definitely remain, and squeezing out the remains is not as convenient as from a syringe.
Finally, gels can vary considerably in price, but not always the price is an indicator of the greater efficacy of the drug.
Let's look further at some popular and cockroach gels that are widely available today.
Gel from cockroaches Brownie
Its full name is a gel from cockroaches and ants, “House Proshka”, in common parlance it is sometimes called “Brownie”. As an active ingredient, the drug contains fipronil, and when properly used in accordance with the instructions, the cockroaches die in the room 1-2 days after the application of the product to the surface.
Gel Brownie is on sale in different packing:
- In syringes with a volume of 10, 30 and 50 ml;
- In tubes of 50, 85, 100 and 150 ml;
- In bottles of 50, 100, 150 and 200 ml;
- In plastic buckets of 0.5-3.5 liters (packaging for professional disinsection services).
30 ml of Brownie gel cost about 50 rubles, and 85 ml - about 100 rubles. Find it on sale in the markets, in most hardware stores and online stores.
A single syringe with a volume of 30 ml (approximately 30 grams) is enough to process one room.
On a note
Analogues Brownie on the active substance are gels Fumitoks, Taiga, Killing Force, Arsenal, Kinkila and some others. Interestingly, the first commercial drug for medical pest control was also an analogue of Brownie: Goliath gel was released back in 1993 and it contained fipronil as the active substance.
Gel Kapkan (Storm-gel-paste)
Gel Kapkan (full name “Kapkan Sturm-Gel-Pasta”) contains two active substances of different classes:
- Diazinon (0.3%) - organophosphorus compound;
- Alpha-cypermethrin (0.05%) is a pyrethroid.
Due to the complex composition, it is almost always effective, since those rare cockroaches that are resistant to cypermethrin are etched by diazinon, and vice versa.
The gel is sold in tubes for 30, 50 and 75 g. A tube for 30 g costs about 50 rubles.
An incomplete analogue of Kapkan can be considered Arsenal gel, containing only diazinon as an active ingredient.
On a note
There is also a Russian-made Kapkan cockroach gel (Victoria Agro LLC) with 0.05% fipronil in its composition. Judging by the reviews, it works well.
How effective is Rubit Zindan from cockroaches?
Cuts Zindan - another fairly effective gel based on a complex of insecticides. Its composition as an active ingredient includes neonicotinoid imidacloprid and organophosphate component chlorpyrifos, which ensures the effectiveness of the drug in almost 100% of cases.
According to the test results, cockroaches die on average 2-3 hours after eating the gel.
Gel from cockroaches Rubit is produced by the Krasnodar company TPK Rosti LLC, a syringe for 30 g of it costs about 100 rubles.
Gel Legion
Another interesting Russian-made gel is Legion (manufacturer - ZAO NPO Garant).
The main active substance of the Legion is deltamethrin, which has an acute toxic effect on cockroaches.
Auxiliary insecticide in the composition of the product is diflubenzuron, an inhibitor of chitin synthesis. Its effect is that the substance disrupts the development of chitinous cover in nymphs of cockroaches, which is why insects die during the molting stage. Thus, diflubenzuron complements the action of deltamethrin in cases where the cockroach eats too little of the drug for poisoning - even without poisoning immediately, the pest will die later.
Practice shows that indoors Legion continues to work effectively against cockroaches up to 2.5 months after application to the surface.
The gel is sold in tubes of 125 ml, the price of one tube is about 100 rubles.
Killer and his features
According to some data, the Killer gel from cockroaches (a package with a syringe and the inscription “Killer”) contains an insecticide under the strange name “Chloronidizalon” (0.9%) as an active substance. If you dig deeper, it becomes clear that such a substance is unknown to chemists and, most likely, simply invented by marketers, so as not to disclose the composition of the drug.
Be that as it may, this Russian-made tool poison cockroaches pretty well, not yielding to other gels.
Gel Killer is sold in syringes with a volume of 20 ml - to handle a large apartment you will need to purchase 2-3 syringes at once.
Feedback
“After the wedding, we with a husband and a small daughter moved into a rented apartment and faced a problem - cockroaches. Once at home, their mother poisoned me when I was little, but for me this problem was new. The mother-in-law immediately brought us the Tigard gel, said it was just magic drops. We put them in the kitchen and on the balcony on the baseboards. And for sure, in a few days the cockroaches stopped noticing. Recently I was looking to buy such a tube, but I did not find it, I bought a similar gel Antius. I think they work the same way. The product is odorless, the price is small. I will keep in stock. "

A little about the gel Great Warrior
Gel from cockroaches and ants Great Warrior contains as an active substance two organophosphorus components: diazinon and chlorpyrifos. Theoretically, the existence of cockroaches is possible, which can be resistant to both of these substances, but in fact the probability of this is negligible, and if used correctly, the means of cockroaches in the house are poisoned quite effectively.
Gel Great Warrior is sold in syringes with a capacity of 30, 50 or 80 ml and is used in the same way as other similar means.
Features of the effective use of gels in the fight against cockroaches
There are two main ways to use cockroach gels:
- The tool is applied to various surfaces in the apartment, where cockroaches can find and eat it. As a rule, these are baseboards, the perimeter of the walls of cabinets and cabinets in the kitchen, the back wall of the refrigerator and stove, the space inside the cabinets, the underside of the kitchen sink, walls and corners under the ceilings. Here, the gel is applied with a dashed line - a strip of product 1-2 cm alternates with a gap of approximately the same length. If the cockroaches in the room a little, then the line can be made from individual drops. This option is preferable when it is not known where the main cockroach shelters are, or such “nests” are scattered throughout the room;
- In the second embodiment, the gel is applied to the substrate - a piece of cardboard or plastic film, and then this substrate is placed where the cockroaches are most likely to hide and move. Such an approach is optimal if it is known where the insect shelter is located. In this case, it doesn’t matter at all how to apply the gel on the substrate — in points, lines, or just one large spot — the cockroaches will surely find poison and eat it.According to the instructions for some products, 5-30 ml of gel can be applied to a single substrate - this will allow you to poison a huge number of cockroaches.
Places of application of the gel should be checked about once every 3-4 days. Where the tool is clearly eaten up by insects or almost dried, it is worth updating. Similarly, the substrate is checked and updated.
On a note
As the gel dries, it is recommended to renew it, although cockroaches may well eat the already dried product. However, in a wet state the gel will work much more efficiently. It is also necessary to take into account that quite often a cockroach, having run through the gel, then cleans itself, eating sticky particles of poison from its paws, which increases the effectiveness of the remedy. The dried drug has no such effect.
It also makes sense to apply the gel with closed lines in places where cockroaches can enter the premises - around the perimeter of ventilation ducts, doors, windows, sewage pipes and heating (insects can squeeze through the gaps between the wall or the ceiling and the pipe). In such cases, the gel is used to create a barrier: even if the cockroach climbs into the room from the outside, in the first place it will eat easily available poison and die.
When it becomes clear that there are no cockroaches left in the house (they stop eating the bait and do not catch the eye), the gel can be washed off from all surfaces simply with a damp cloth. All modern gels do not leave traces on the site of application, so some special surface treatment is not required after them.

“We hounded cockroaches in a hostel. From the first day I saw how many of them there, I thought, I would move out. A nightmare! They were everywhere, even during the day they ran along the ceiling. We have just not tried, no poison did not act on them. In the end, they etched them with a gel, they were still very surprised, because it costs a penny, and it worked more reliably than expensive means. The gel was called Tarakanoff, sold in a syringe. I smeared all the skirting boards with the syringe, the walls of the tables and the legs of the beds. And when the cockroaches disappeared, the girls from the next rooms also bought several syringes and poisoned the cockroaches. Later, the commandant also thanked us for giving thanks that we were able to bring order to such an order ... ”

Safety of insecticidal gels for people, pets and furniture
No matter how much the advertisement adheres to the “complete” safety of a drug in circulation, it should be borne in mind that all the insecticides that make up the gels,To some extent toxic for humans and pets.
However, with proper use of gels, danger from them can be minimized. Here are some nuances that are worth paying attention to:
- It is advisable to apply funds with bitterness in its composition - then neither the cat, nor the dog, nor the curious child will be able to eat the gel. Even if by chance someone of them lick a drop and swallow, such an amount will not cause poisoning;
- It is advisable to apply the gels mainly in hard-to-reach places - behind the furniture in the kitchen, on the back walls of the bedside tables and cabinets, inside them, that is, where the tool does not accidentally fall into the eyes of the child;
- Substrates with gel should also be installed in inaccessible places - for example, under the bathroom, in the nightstands, under the refrigerator;
- Do not give pets to eat dead or disoriented (recently poisoned) cockroaches.
If a child or a pet still managed to swallow a significant portion of the gel, you need to give a few tablets of activated charcoal and consult a doctor without waiting for the deterioration of the victim's state of health.
On a note
Gels with pyrethroids are most dangerous for cats - cats are the most sensitive to substances of this class. But organophosphorus compounds are about equally toxic for cats, dogs, and humans.
The importance of an integrated approach in the fight against cockroaches
Finally, it is important to remember that gels work passively. That is, in order to get poisoned, the cockroach needs to find this means and feed it. For this reason, the gels do not allow the pests to be slammed off quickly and immediately, as aerosols do (in case of severe contamination of the premises with cockroaches, pest control with the help of a gel can take several weeks or even more). Therefore, in rooms with a large number of cockroaches, it makes sense to first destroy the main population with aerosol insecticides, and then use the gel to poison the surviving insects.
In addition, even after a successful disinsection apartment must be protected from re-penetration of cockroaches. It is highly likely that insects also live at neighbors or in the stairwell, and if the pests have the opportunity, they will penetrate the room again.If the path of penetration is difficult to block completely, near them it makes sense to apply the gel to poison all insects that enter the room. Also, in addition to gels, you can use glue traps for cockroaches and special bait houses.
At the same time, it is necessary to understand that the most reliable way for an insect to block the way into a room is to block all the “entrance gates”. Something can zashpatlevat, something - to seal up with foam. And when there are no such paths left, the insects living in the apartment can be calmly and systematically pounded with gel.

“I couldn’t even imagine that in the 21st century cockroaches could start in an apartment! And yet wound up. Apparently, the permanent residues in the cat's bowl did their job. A friend advised me to blockbuster gel, is sold in syringes and is quite inexpensive, something around 20 UAH. I just took a few sheets of paper, tore them into small pieces, for each piece I squeezed out a few drops of gel and laid them out wherever possible in the kitchen - under the refrigerator, under the bedside tables, behind the stove, under the sink. Dead cockroaches did not see after that,but in general they disappeared - for a month now they have not seen one of them. ”

Why sometimes cockroaches can not get out of the apartment
How to choose a strong remedy for cockroaches: a video review of different types of tools
Tell me, is such a situation possible that a cockroach, smeared in gel, will then climb on tables, dishes, etc., thereby leaving poisoned traces on them?
If so, with what measures can you effectively avoid the poisoning of cockroach? Hermetically winding dishes at night?
We have a small child, and it is very important that the gel does not get on the children's dishes. Yes, and nursing mom, too, is not necessary.
