The types of insects that can live in the apartment, and their photos

≡ Article 43 has comments

We learn more about the different types of insects that are found in apartments, and also see how they look in the photos ...

Insects live in almost every home. It is a fact: even if the owners of the premises do not see them, it almost always only means that such “cohabitants” simply very successfully hide themselves from the eyes of the person. In some cases, insects in an apartment can be completely harmless, but some of their species are a serious danger not only for food and things, but also for the person himself.

It is also important that many insects that can live in an apartment are absolutely indifferent to its sanitary condition. For example, the silverfish (see photo below) may well meet even in a luxury apartment with a good repair:

The silverfish, for example, can be found even in the cleanest and elite apartments.

And then the bedbugs nest is shown - they are able to multiply well both in dirty shacks and in the most modern and comfortable apartments:

Bed bugs are able to settle in squalid shacks, as well as in the most luxurious apartments.

That is why you should not count on the fact that if the apartment is constantly maintained in order, then there will definitely be no insects in it. In some cases, it makes almost no difference.

Of course, in an exemplary cleaned room, there will hardly be any ubiquitous cockroaches or woodlice in the bathroom, but a certain insect fauna will master it. Therefore, it will be useful for each homeowner to find out what the main types of insects are found in apartments, what are their features and how difficult it is to fight them. About this further and talk ...

All variety of insects in the apartment

According to the degree of harm and danger, synanthropic insects can be classified into several groups. The first is blood-sucking parasites that pose an immediate danger to humans (and sometimes to domestic animals):

  1. Bed bugs - they almost always bite only the person. They do not have wings; they settle in large groups in sofas, under mattresses, under baseboards, in various crevices. Bedbugs mostly bite only at night, and during mass bites can cause serious allergic reactions, especially in children. Cats and dogs bugs almost never bite.
Bed bugs are blood-sucking insects, mostly biting only humans.
  2. Fleas - but they are not picky about choosing a host. It is very small jumping insects in the apartment, biting mostly during daylight hours. Can parasitize on cats, dogs, domestic rodents, actively bite and man. In some cases, fleas can be quite difficult to remove from the premises. Sometimes they enter the apartment from the basement (basement fleas).
Fleas are small blood-sucking insects that can bite not only pets, but also you.

  3. Lice - small white or grayish insects, constantly living in linen or on the hairy part of the human body. In an apartment, lice themselves are found in exceptional cases when they accidentally fall from their victim.
And it looks like a clothes louse with a strong increase

The second group is pests that spoil the food or other property in the apartment. Among them are the following types of insects:

  1. Cockroaches - perhaps the most famous and easily recognizable. They settle most often in kitchens, they feed on various food wastes, and they are able to carry various dirt with pathogens on their paws.Ordinary red cockroaches on their paws are quite capable of carrying pathogens.
  2. Pharaoh ants are one of the most difficult to remove insects from the home. Their colonies can be interconnected and cover several apartments at once, in which they arrange their anthills, collecting various food waste in them.If small redhead freeloaders, Pharaoh ants, start up in an apartment, it will not be easy to get them out ...
  3. Litter, usually settled on the first floor in the bathrooms and toilets. In general, woodlice are not insects (refer to crustaceans), but they lead about the same way of life as cockroaches. It is most often settled in wet rooms, especially in bathrooms and toilets.
  4. Moth - the scourge of the fur coats and kitchen cabinets. Her inconspicuous butterflies are very annoying with their flutter, and the larvae at this time sharpen groceries or make holes in clothes from natural and semi-synthetic materials. It looks like clothes moth
  5. Kozheedy beetles, very small, the size of a flea. Their larvae can eat a variety of organics, including even some toxic substances. The inconspicuous kozheed beetle can cause considerable damage in the house
  6. Pests of domestic plants - thrips, whiteflies, springtails, and insects. If white insects appeared in an apartment in flower pots, then this is most likely one of them. The small white insects in the flowerpot are the springtails, the pests of houseplants.

The photo below shows the springtails in a flower pot with earth:

The photo shows springtails in a flower pot with earth.

They live in apartments and insects that do not cause appreciable harm. For example, these include:

  1. Champions feeding on pieces of paper and organic residues in the dust.Silverfish in the apartment can eat organic residues in the dust
  2. Butterflies are small flies, the larvae of which develop in garbage and sewage. Most often found in bathrooms and toilets.Butterfly fly on the wall in the toilet.

And the last group is insects, with a certain frequency looking into the apartment, but not living here permanently. These include mosquitoes, flies, bug-bugs, gold-eyed, forest ants and many others. Indoor insects can not be called.

Next, we take a closer look at the representatives of the most harmful insects that are permanent inhabitants of apartments.

Cockroaches and the harm they cause

The main danger associated with the presence of cockroaches in the apartment is the spread of pathogens and dirt from the refuse chutes. Constantly moving around the table, food, dishes, they greatly worsen the sanitary situation in the room.

Imagine: at first a cockroach crawled over rotting waste in the garbage chute, and then made its way into the apartment and ran over the bread left on the kitchen table ...

Cockroaches are probably one of the most famous insects living in an apartment, so everyone knows, as they say, “by sight”. For example, in the photo below - a red cockroach, small, but incredibly easily adapting to different conditions of existence:

Omnipresent cockroaches are able to adapt to the most difficult conditions of existence, so that the conditions of the apartment for them - a real paradise.

And then in the photo - black cockroaches, which not everyone had to see. They are large in size - up to 4 cm. So if you meet a large black insect in the apartment that looks like a cockroach, then almost certainly this is Blatta orientalis (this is the Latin name for this kind of insect):

The black cockroach has the beautiful Latin name Blatta Orientalis, and along with its red counterpart it is a typical synanthropic insect.

Cockroaches are especially easy to start in an apartment in which there is an opportunity to get to food, there is a source of water and places of shelter. If it is very diligent to maintain cleanliness in the room and as quickly as possible destroy the first aliens from the neighbors, then your apartment may well be the only one without cockroaches, even if they will be infested in all the neighboring apartments.

The fight against cockroaches is not difficult, but it requires time and money: cockroaches are destroyed by a variety of insecticides, and special gels and microencapsulated drugs are especially effective in this fight (Get, Lambda Zone, Delta Zone, etc.)

Bugs in the apartment

Bed bugs (Cimex lectularius) are the most unpleasant blood-sucking insects in the apartment. They attack a person at night, crawling on the bed and biting over any exposed areas of the body.

During the day, bedbugs hide in furniture, behind plinths, in mattresses, household appliances, and carpets on the walls.Sometimes they are confused with cockroaches, especially young larvae.

The photo shows the bed bug bug:

Bedbug larvae are sometimes confused with small, recently hatched from the eggs, cockroaches ...

The photo shows the bed bug bug (nymph) under the microscope

Due to the fact that bugs feed only on human blood, they, unlike cockroaches, cannot be destroyed by various poisoned traps and baits. The most effective way to deal with bedbugs is baiting with insecticidal aerosols and sprays.

Ants: the smallest, most difficult to remove

Domestic ants (also called pharaohs) are very highly organized insects. In the apartment or outside, they organize a nest in which several females lay eggs, and working individuals maintain them and store food stocks. Such stocks can rot, and insects themselves can move along the walls of the house rubbish chute and the products in the kitchen in one day.

The photo below shows these apartment insects that have found a delicacy on the kitchen table:

When making a chocolate cake, remember that it can be appreciated not only by your loved ones, but also by the harmful pharaoh ants.

Ants have found a delicacy to taste

Due to its ability to organize several interconnecting nests, ants can seize several apartments and apartment premises at once. Certain difficulties in their breeding are connected with this: even after destroying the ants in their apartment, one cannot be sure that in a week they will not begin to colonize it anew, coming from the neighbors.

These harmful little insects are bred by the same means and methods as cockroaches. However, it is important to bear in mind that until the uterus of domestic ants has been destroyed, the colony will live.

Fleas: danger, biology, specificity of the fight

Fleas are another biting insect parasites in the apartment. Most of the time they spend in shelters near places of recreation for pets, often for a long time in the fur of cats and dogs. The larvae of these small blood-sucking insects can be found in any places where there is rotting organic debris: in garbage, sewage, animal litter.

The insect on the rug shown in the photo below is a cat flea (for the uninitiated person, outwardly, it almost does not differ from other flea species — canine, rat, human ...):

Cat flea

Adult fleas feed exclusively on human and animal blood. But their larvae as food are suitable as food and excrement of adult fleas or pets.

All the difficulties of dealing with fleas are related to the fact that they can be found both in animal hair and anywhere in the room.Of all the insects that live in an apartment, fleas require the most comprehensive approach to breeding: they are first destroyed on animals, then indoors, and finally they poison the surviving larvae.

Mole as the main destroyer of food and clothing

Moths are flying insects in an apartment, butterflies of which are most often visible on the ceiling, windows, inside cabinets. There are many types of them, some of which harm food products (food moth), and some - to fur and woolen things (clothes moth).

The actual pests are the larvae of the moth. Butterflies in most cases do not feed at all, and are engaged only in laying eggs. Moth caterpillars can penetrate into closed cans, bags and boxes at a young age and then feed on the product they are in.

In the damaged products in the kitchen, you can most often find not the moth but their own caterpillars

Even semisynthetic tissues can damage a clothesline or a fur coat mole, but they cannot eat pure synthetics.

In the photo below - typical residential pests: barn moth and clothes moth:

Mosquitoes in the apartment

Mosquitoes are well-known summer insects, often flying into an apartment. In the photo below, a female mosquito is visible, sucking blood and clearly demonstrating what exactly these insects are for aspiring to get into our homes:

This female mosquito flew into your home for one purpose: to drink as much blood out of you.

Mosquitoes do not live permanently in a person’s dwelling, as they need reservoirs for reproduction. However, in the apartments they appear in search of the victim, arriving in the evenings to light the lamps.

In most cases, it is much easier not to let them into the apartment by hanging a mosquito net on the windows, or scaring them off with special devices (fumigators, ultrasonic repellents) than to look for them on the ceiling and walls and destroy them.

Wets are not quite insects

In most cases, woodlice are infested only in those apartments where the water from pipes is constantly wet, for example. These insects are excellent indicators of various water breaks and flange depressurization.

Picture of woodlouse:

Moss cocks are good indicators of excessive moisture in the apartment.

Occasionally, wood lice can also enter the bathroom or toilet through ventilation from the attic or from neighbors. They do not cause any harm, they are content with various garbage in damp places, but they are very unpleasant in appearance. They are derived in the same way as cockroaches.

Kozheeda beetles

Kozheedy beetles in apartments occasionally spoil clothing and food products. They are especially dangerous because the grains or other groceries they eat are poisonous to humans. In addition, the larvae of these beetles can spoil expensive fur products and knitwear.

These insects are rarely numerous, but can be found almost everywhere: in books, underwear, food, garbage. It is rather difficult to remove them, and in most cases the struggle consists in throwing out contaminated products and regularly cleaning the shelves and cabinets in the apartment.

In the photo - a bread grinder (aka kozheed), a flea-sized beetle:

Although the kozheed beetle is just the size of a flea, it can thoroughly spoil your belongings and food supplies.

Other indoor insects - butterflies, scales, book lice - if harm, then insignificant and very subtle. Book lice, for example, feed on glue in book covers.

Unpleasant pests are also insects on domestic plants, which may well lead to their death due to damage to the roots and leaves. Often these are small insects of white color, slow-moving and easily destroyed by special insecticidal agents for processing plants. Generally speaking, there are many species of such pests, and the worms, springtails and whiteflies are only a very small part of them.

In general, to prevent the appearance of virtually any insects in an apartment, it is necessary to carefully check all purchased products and domestic plants, protect animals from being infected with fleas, and ensure that children do not get head lice. And the apartment itself must be carefully cleaned and maintained in it clean, which with a certain reliability will provide protection from the most common pests.

In my house, the horror at all is going on ... At first, there were mucids, they were all tortured to wash with vinegar, then they somehow disappeared, but instead of them red ants appeared. On the windowsill often find dead bugs, similar to kozheeda. Today found in the sofa (compartment for linen) black or brown larvae (similar to the silverfish). I do not understand what is happening and where it comes from. Houses every 2-3 days wet cleaning.

Yes, I have the same nonsense. Mukoedov was once brought to the apartment with some product, they were generally everywhere - in the kitchen in the cabinet, on the floor, in the bathroom in the closet. On the windowsill, a cemetery of kozheedov appears every week or two, something also started up in the sofa - it seems to have been poisoned.Recently I found some larvae in the box - perhaps kozheedov or someone else. The apartment is not dirty, but a lot of dust accumulates, you can wipe it off in the morning - by the evening or the next day it’s the same again. If you forget about some places in the house for a long time, then there is sure to be something there. Recently, some kind of jet mosquito entered the apartment. Scary to live.

They are all around: on the walls and on the floor. Small, whitish-transparent, they are barely noticeable. How to deal with them, I do not know. Everything has already been washed out with bleach, and they all climb and climb. Can you please tell me what to do? I'm afraid to go into the kitchen already, I'm desperate, I have no strength.
