Karbofos and its application to combat house bugs

Malathion

In the fight against bedbugs, many insecticides managed to "break their teeth." The reasons for this are clear: not only are the bugs themselves sufficiently resistant to various chemical compounds that are effective against other insects, in addition, the bedbug quickly enough adapts even to those poisons from which just yesterday, it would seem, died. It is not surprising that the market for bedbugs constantly replace each other. And today the most used and one of the most effective insecticides is considered a remedy for bugs Karbofos - a drug based on the ether of phosphorus and sulfur-containing organic compounds - malathion.

Karbofos from bedbugs

This drug is one of the few that act on insects quickly and efficiently, and the destruction of bedbugs by Malophos is usually not time consuming.

How does Karbofos (aka Malatyon) act on bedbugs?

The principle of action of Malathion is that it violates the standard transmission of nerve impulses from cell to cell, preventing the opening of the nerve chain. Thus, the chain is always closed, resulting in paralysis and death of the insect. In other words, Karbofos has a nerve-paralytic mechanism of action.

Under the influence of various intracellular oxidizers, malathion (this is another name for Karbofos) can turn into its analogue - malooxon, whose activity is several times higher than the level of its predecessor. It is this reaction that converts one substance to another most often occurs in the body of an insect, and is less characteristic of plants and warm-blooded animals.

The reverse process or the decay of a toxic "relative" in insects is much slower than in the body of warm-blooded animals. That is why malathion is so strongly and quite selectively poisonous specifically for insects, among which there are many pests.

However, malathion in some cases may be ineffective from bedbugs.Repeated use of Malathion causes insects that are resistant to its effects. Bedbugs have the opportunity to destroy malathion, turning it into less toxic compounds.

Over time, bed bug bugs may appear resistant to Karbofos

The basis of these reactions are mutations in the genetic apparatus of insects, leading to the emergence of new resistant enzymes in decay reactions or a significant increase in the activity of already existing proteins in the body.

This is an example of evolution in its modern form in the fight against insects with humans. It can be said that constantly using Karbofos, residents of large cities themselves create mutants for which this poison is not terrible.

A bit of history: how Karbofos was created

For the first time, the synthesis of organophosphorus compounds, to which Karbofos belongs, was carried out as far back as the 19th century. However, the intensive development of studies of such substances, both as components of plastics and rubber, various additives for lubricating oils, and insecticides for agriculture, was the work of A.Ye. Arbuzov, started as early as the 30s of the XX century. The first organophosphorus compounds were extremely poisonous and, accordingly, dangerous for warm-blooded animals, including humans. This stimulated the search for new compounds with selectively targeted toxicity, as well as finding the means that could become antidotes for the class under study.

Of the many thousands of synthesized organophosphorus compounds, most, including Karbofos, was obtained in the Soviet Union in specially created laboratories. In parallel, the study of such drugs occurred in several countries: England, Germany and the United States (American Cyanamid Company). It was within the walls of this company in the middle of the last century that the drug TM 4949 appeared, the trade name of which was Malaton at first, and then Malathion.

Malathion - an alternative name for Malathion

Physical and chemical properties of karbofos

Pure Karbofos (Malathion) is an oily liquid that has no coloring, but has a characteristic very sharp and unpleasant odor. The drug, ready for use, is a dark brown liquid.

Properties of Malathion:

  • very poorly soluble in water
  • mixes well with most organic solvents
  • relatively resistant to heat and sunlight
  • quickly collapses when alkali is added. Therefore, alkaline solutions, in particular soap solutions, can be used for the disposal of household items after treatment with Karbofos.
  • Karbofos - a substance with a relatively high volatility, which increases significantly with increasing temperature. This must be taken into account when processing karbofos premises.

How dangerous is karbofos for people and pets

When using karbofos it is necessary to remove all pets from the room.

For warm-blooded creatures, including humans, Karbofos can be very poisonous, and the level of toxicity depends on the purity of the drug.

In animal cells, this compound is rapidly metabolized to form less dangerous decomposition products, which are rapidly eliminated from the body.

Karbofos has cumulative properties, and with prolonged exposure may accumulate in the body, but it occurs over a very long period of time. Symptoms that develop at the initial stages of Karbofos intoxication mainly consist in excessive activation of the transmission of nerve impulses, as well as a direct toxic effect on the cells of various organs. As a result of this activity, a dysfunction of various organs develops.

Areas of use

Malathion

Karbofos (Malathion) - an insecticide, the relevance of which continues to be high to this day. This substance can be used by humans at home, in agriculture to combat many parasitic insects, including bedbugs. Karbofos against bedbugs is effective at all stages of development, ranging from eggs to adult individuals.

However, as with the use of any toxic substance, the treatment of premises with Karbofos requires considerable preliminary preparation.

Before as poison bugs Karbofos, it is necessary to clean the room, during which all food products, dishes and cutlery, items for personal use and personal hygiene need to be packed in plastic bags. It is advisable to do it tightly and put it in some closed place (for example, in a refrigerator). And furniture, both wooden and soft, on the contrary, if possible, make it more accessible to the impact of Malathion.

All pets must be evacuated from the apartment at the time of treatment with the drug. And if the apartment has an aquarium, then it is necessary to turn off the air filtration and cover it with something on top.

Having bought Karbofos from bedbugs and intending to use it, you must first read the instructions. The person who will conduct processing apartments from bedbugs using Karbofos, must perform all operations in rubber gloves, a cotton-gauze bandage and maximum closed clothing.

Respirator

If possible, it would be good to use safety glasses. During the relevant manipulations due to non-compliance with precautionary measures, poisoning or allergies can occur.

According to the instructions, the karbofos emulsion concentrate from bugs is diluted in a certain volume of water, then mixed and sprayed on the surface of objects.

Particular attention should be paid to such "secluded" corners of the apartment, as the rear walls of wooden furniture, the joints in the upholstered furniture and between the wallpaper, the cracks in the walls and floor, baseboards, the space inside the bookshelves. It is possible to apply means by means of usual household sprinklers or bottles with a spray from means of household chemicals.

Household sprayers

Karbofos during the treatment of the room from bedbugs should not be applied on bedding, clothing, as well as human skin.

After the treatment, you must wash your hands thoroughly with soap and, or simply get rid of “working” clothes, or wash them with baking soda.

After the appropriate exposure time of the drug (usually 4-5 hours), the apartment must be well ventilated, if possible, until the smell of Karbofos is completely eliminated. Also, those areas of the interior and furniture, to which the inhabitants of the apartment most often touch their hands, should be washed with soapy water with the addition of baking soda.

On the third day after the first treatment, they are re-treated from bugs, the implementation of which occurs according to the above scheme. General cleaning can be made only after 1.5-2 months after using Malathion.

Malathion Substitutes

Today Karbofos is gradually being replaced by insecticides from the Pyrethroid groups (Cypermetrin, Permetrin), Neonicotinoids (Imidacloprid, Thiametoxam), and the same class of Karbofos itself, but of a newer generation (for example, Diazinon), which are safer for humans.

Synthetic pyrethroids are analogues of natural substances contained in chamomile flowers. They appeared on the market of agricultural insecticides in the last century, but they had several serious drawbacks - high cost and relatively fast loss of activity in the external environment. However, later technologists were able to rid the preparations of the main shortcomings, and today this class of compounds is widely used both in living conditions and in agriculture to fight many insects, including bed bugs.

The simultaneous use of Karbofos and Permethrin from the group of Pyrethroids has proven itself very well, since these drugs turned out to be synergistic, enhancing the action of each other, and allowing them to overcome the resistance of insects to each of them separately.

Insecticides of the class Neonikotinoidov - synthetic analogues of substances contained in the leaves of tobacco and tobacco. These compounds are characterized by accumulation mainly in the stems and leaves of agricultural plants, which is very important when applied to fruit and vegetable crops used by humans for food mostly fresh.

Diazinon is a contact and intestinal insecticide developed by the Swiss chemical company Ciba-Geigy. For a long time, it was used in residential premises against bedbugs, cockroaches, ants, moths and fleas, but for almost 10 years it has been used almost exclusively in agriculture.

Today drugs based on malathion remain the main means of combating bed bugs, accounting for 75-80% of the market of household insecticides and pleasing the user with relatively low prices. Therefore, if necessary, you can safely apply them.

Question: About 30 years ago, after moving to a new apartment, they received from neighbors who were dragging contaminated furniture, bedbugs and cockroaches with them. Processed plinth, cracks, etc. The result was positive.
Six months later, the "attack" was repeated, increased concentration. There are no bugs and cockroaches, but if high humidity is summer, it rains the persistent smell of karbofos. Could it be 30 years after application? Thank.

We were helped only by Malathion, so for me - let it smell better than these parasites.

Tell me, please, do you need to spray karbofos throughout the whole apartment, or will it be enough for one room in which to bite? 4 people live, bite from all only one.

It is necessary to process the entire apartment. They bite not one, but just one of you has an allergic reaction to the bites, and the rest are also bitten, just because of a certain blood group they almost do not pay attention to the bites, which may not even be scratched. And so they think that they do not bite. I have the same situation.Bite supposedly only me. So you need to handle everything.

Buy a gold plan, powder, 100 grams of mound in a saline and sprinkle on plinths. One pack in two rooms is enough. And let the whole month be worth it. One hundred percent kills, I give a guarantee. I myself am from Turkmenistan, I work in the sanitary epidemiological station.

Hello. Where is this gold plan to buy? Even I did not find it in Google, there is no about it on the Internet.

        Thanks to everyone who responded.

Goldplan 20RP is a Turkish-made insecticide; in our territory in the markets and shops in Turkmenistan it is the only effective remedy for bedbugs.

The smell of karbofos is very nasty. Even after a few years it will stink, leaving behind a stains (white spots). It is impossible to get rid of the smell. And it does not always act on bedbugs.

Here specifically the article about karbofos, and not about the extermination of bedbugs. Although karbofos is a remedy for bedbugs, it’s clearly and surely written that frequent use (it’s not just about you, but about your house, if it’s multi-family) on bugs can give a mutation that will give immunity or something like that the same article is again written.

So, there is another way that has to work for many, many years or even centuries - a damning steam (who says what temperature). Like, bugs do not tolerate a temperature of +48 and higher (or +55 and higher), they are almost not afraid of a frost, they can live for a month and a half at -15 or more. So PARA! And you are not figs to poison yourself and give immunity to bugs. If they come to you from their neighbors, they will return to them along the same paths or they will go to other neighbors. They need to sharply when they exterminate. Yesterday I transmitted all of them, about 80-100 pieces, the most important thing - thanks to my very good vision, their white larvae found. At such moments, you simply must have a strong desire to explore the entire territory with very close observation (at a distance of 20 cm, facing the surfaces), find all the larvae in the apartment and destroy them with steam. Otherwise, then it will be too late, and the offspring will grow, do not hesitate. I am 25, I encounter bedbugs for the second time, and the third apartment in a row (the bugs were in the first and third). By the way, yesterday I killed offspring from the first bugs, the karbofos did not help, they clamped in one room and made me a midnight dinner.

Absolutely just as important factor is the presence of cracks throughout the apartment. It would seem that the gap leads towards the street, but no, we do not see the moves, they clearly lead to the neighbors. They can migrate here and there. Mutated all walls thorough, blood from the nose! Baseboards all (floor and ceiling) to remove, foam montage or smear - what you want, but so that it does not collapse for many years, you have to do it conscientiously. Skirtings, by the way, from a certain angle you need to lay down, google, as it is done, surely, otherwise you will create a lot of very convenient and direct bugs. Imagine, you have all dressed, even under the baseboards, but the larvae have not been killed somewhere. They will grow up, this is by itself, but the offspring are smarter, they are looking for other places, and it is guaranteed that they will find the moves in the poorly attached skirting boards and will stomp around the whole apartment. If you do not do everything thoroughly, you will get rid of bedbugs for a dozen years without success. If in your city there is a special service for the extermination of reptiles, call! If not, study and do a great job. Well, or be an eternal dinner, whatever.

P.S. If you believe another article, then the ferry will have to be evaporated for a long time, about 30-90 minutes in one place, read other articles.

P.P.S. I do not keep pets for many years and there were no such cases, so that the bugs and animals. But you do not forget to check, for example, dog mat or box for a cat (well, what if someone) AND EVERYTHING AROUND them (it’s better to go through the whole apartment, but nobody will ever want to do this, am I right?) It does not hurt to bring them to the survey, the cases are sometimes different and difficult for pets.

Yes, hell, you hand over them, what kind of nonsense at all. And it is necessary to drive such neighbors, from which this infection climbs. We're going to evict such a person, he lives in rent, and he has thrown such a garbage bin, God forbid. And bedbugs clouds, neighbors suffer. Yes, it is necessary to flatten him like a bug!

So bedbugs are necessary, but how much does karbofos erode from the house?

Recently moved to a new apartment and faced with this terrible problem. The apartment was cheap, and therefore bought. As it turned out later, all the neighbors in this house are in the most disadvantaged (asocial). It’s pointless to put together processing with them, as if everything is fine with them. We tried to fight for ourselves, but without success (fufanon). They summoned specialists, did not know half a year. Now, again, from the neighbors came running. The specialist, of course, immediately warned that it was better to persecute all the neighbors, but for the period of the guarantee it was enough (just half a year). We are thinking of changing the housing, but for the present we are paying a loan for this apartment. In general, I am going to the store for Karbofos.
