Lamps for the destruction of flying insects

Статьи Article 2 has comments

Today, ultraviolet insect lamps (also called shredders) are becoming increasingly popular - but are they really as effective as consumers say about them? Let's understand ...

It should be borne in mind that insect lamps are very effective means for the destruction of precisely flying insects: mosquitoes, flies, moths and other midges. Such devices are now widely used against various pests and parasites in residential buildings, on livestock farms, in country houses and homestead farms, in gardens and in vegetable gardens. Often they are also bought to protect the premises of grocery stores, restaurants, cafes, for the destruction of pests in warehouses.

Quite often, insect lamps are bought to protect the premises of shops and restaurants.

With this lamp to kill insects - the tool is not universal, it will be ineffective against cockroaches, bedbugs, ants and other crawling insects, as well as against some diurnal butterflies. And the reason for this lies in the special principle of operation of such devices - let's consider it in more detail ...

The principle of operation of insect lamps

It is known that mosquitoes, various moths and flies tend to fly into the light at dusk and at night — they will fly with the same light to the light of a trap lamp. Moreover, the ultraviolet light emitted by the lamp of the device attracts these insects to an even greater degree than the “ordinary” radiation of the visible spectrum.

Ultraviolet light attracts a large number of flying insects.

The ultraviolet lamp in the device is fenced with a fine grid, which is under high voltage. When an insect attracted by UV light tries to get closer to a light source, it inevitably falls on the grid and immediately receives a deadly electrical discharge (therefore, the device is sometimes popularly called an electroshock lamp from insects). After that, the remains of the insect fall on a special pan, which during operation must be periodically cleaned.

The photograph shows the remains of insects killed by the lamp.

On a note

Some species of flying insects do not attract ultraviolet radiation (for example, certain types of day butterflies). Accordingly, UV lamps will be ineffective against these insects.

It should be noted that despite the emitted ultraviolet, insecticidal insect lamps are completely safe for humans: the wavelength of the emitted light is chosen so as not to cause ozonization of the surrounding air and not damage the eye tissue, even if you look at the device for a long time (very soft ultraviolet light). In addition, the energized grid in the device is isolated by a protective grid, through which even a child cannot stick his fingers, but insects can penetrate freely.

In the insect killer there is a special protective grille so that a person cannot touch the stun metal grid.

In some insect killers Next to the lamp, special fans are additionally installed, which are tightened onto the grid of closely flying insects. This increases the efficiency of the device, but at the same time somewhat increases their energy consumption.

On a note

The power consumption of household insect lamps usually ranges from 8 to 30 W, and the number of lamps in the device may vary. Home appliances are designed to kill flying insects in separate small spaces. Industrial traps have lamp power up to 80 W and can be used in rooms up to 200 m² and even outdoors.

Types and brands of shredders

Despite the general principle of the action of ultraviolet lamps from insects, they are classified according to the method of extermination of insects and the scope.
For example, there are devices in which insects are destroyed by electric discharge, and there are also models in which glue is applied to the grid.

The lamp for the destruction of flying insects on a glue base is intended for premises where, according to fire safety requirements, it is forbidden to use devices with electrical discharge - for example, in warehouses, dryers, and silage towers. In such a lamp, the grid with glue is removable and requires periodic replacement (usually every few days).

By scope distinguish:

  1. Household appliances used in residential premises. Energy, Samurai, Mo El and others are known among them.It may look like a household insect killer.
  2. Lamps designed to fight insects in public places. They are produced by Mo El, Well, Hilton. But such devices are often used, for example, in grocery stores.
  3. As well as industrial destroyers of insects, which are used in warehouses, stables and livestock farms. Well produces the largest range of such lamps. The photo shows an industrial tube insect killer.

Before you buy a lamp from insects, you should estimate in advance the area of the territory that it will have to protect. If the area is large, then you may need several devices.

Insect lamp rules

Ideally, each anti-insect lamp should be placed in a place of a room or area in which it will be clearly visible from any point of it. After that, the device connects to the outlet, selects the mode of operation and the lamp turns on.

The better you can see the UV lamp from different points in the room, the more efficient the shredder will work.

It is very effective to place a lamp between the end goal of insects (for example, a sleeping person) and the place of their penetration into the room. For example, if mosquitoes fly through a window, the insect killer should be between the window and the bed. Otherwise, the mosquito will first bite the person on the bed, and then fly to the anti-mosquito lamp.

In that season, when insect strobe lamps are used constantly, they should be cleaned regularly. To do this, the device must be disconnected from the outlet, then a special tray for insects is taken out - you just need to shake it out and, if necessary, wipe it with a damp cloth.

In lamps with glue bars every few days you need to change the grid itself.

Feedback

“Neither fumigators, nor any ultrasonic repellents helped us. The problem with mosquitoes was solved with the help of a Hilton UV lamp. This lamp has a night mode from insects, when it practically does not shine, but attracts mosquitoes. For fun, I took out a bowl in the morning, on which dead mosquitoes fall. There were about fifteen of them there! And this is for one night. It is not clear how we used to manage to sleep at all with so many of them ... ”

Well lamps: prices, specifics and reviews

Well company specializes mainly in the sale of fairly powerful industrial insect lamps, although there are several household models. In the lines of its devices there are lamps with a power of 8 W and a price of 4,000 rubles to a killer with a capacity of 80 W and cost over 10,000 rubles.

Well company produces quite powerful devices that are often used in industrial enterprises.

Well lamps from insects are represented by three models of relatively bulky, but quite effective devices. Their prices range from 4000-6000 rubles.

Industrial lamp-traps of this manufacturer are primarily intended to protect the warehouses from moths, livestock farms - from manure flies and gadflies, home gardens - from pests of garden and garden crops.

With the help of a lamp from insects it is possible to fight, for example, flies and gadflies on farms.

From Well you can buy both the insect killers themselves and their components - spare parts, replaceable grids, UV lamps.

Feedback:

“We bought the Well WE-150-2SW lamp to protect the goats in our small private farm. Blind and gadfly just pestering them, and two goatlings this year died from gadflies in the nasopharynx.Lamps work fine, low light is constantly maintained in the shed, so the flies flock to the light immediately. We have to shake them all the time, every day the tray is completely full. ”

Mo El and the destruction of insects with their help

The products of the Italian company Mo El are focused primarily on domestic needs: it is the lamps for home use that are well represented in the company's catalog. Mo El has a lot of models - more than 35 - and many of them use original technical solutions.

For example, MO-BUTTERFLY 700 is designed to kill night butterflies. The trap is a wide pallet, suspended horizontally, on which is placed a sheet with glue and a lamp:

Such a Mo El lamp trap allows you to catch butterflies and other flying insects on a sticky tray.

According to the same principle, MO-PLICK 398 works, but in it the lamp is covered with an inclined panel with glue, thanks to which the trap in the room works in the nightlight mode:

Also, Mo El has a lot of devices that destroy insects by electrical discharge. And this company has lamps in the INSECTIVORO line, equipped with a fan for sucking insects:

Devices INSECTIVORO line suck insects with a fan.

Prices for lamps from insects Mo El vary in the range from 1,500 to 10,000 rubles.

Hilton lamps

Simply put, the Hilton is a German insect lamp. The company produces lamps for apartments, houses and restaurants.

The simplest Hilton Black Monster GP-4 device has a power of 4 W and costs only about 400 rubles. It is enough to protect one small room.

Lamp Hilton Black Monster GP-4 is suitable for protection against insects in a small room.

The largest Hilton lamps of the Power Insect Killer BN-30W type cost about 2000 rubles and are intended for placement in cafes and in small warehouses.

And such a device is quite possible to use in the premises of shops and cafes.

Feedback

“Do not chase for powerful insect lamps, it is meaningless. We bought a small suspended Hilton, the black one, for 350 rubles, turned on and did not see a single mosquito at home. In general, the device works amazingly. There is almost no light from him, and he does not interfere with sleep. ”

Olga, Krasnoyarsk

In general, lamps against flying insects are among the most convenient and effective means. For comparison: suspended adhesive tapes are prohibited for use in certain types of premises, and in the same restaurants and cafes they cannot be used due to lack of aesthetics.

In restaurants and cafes the use of sticky tapes from insects is impractical due to lack of aesthetics.

Aerosol preparations are sometimes undesirable for use in residential areas, especially when children who are allergic to allergies live here. Also, not everyone is ready to breathe insecticides all night (and every night) from the electric fumigator.

In some cases, the use of an electric fumigator will not be the best solution - especially for those people who do not want to breathe different chemicals ...

In all these cases, it is the lamps that can come to the rescue and provide reliable protection of the room against flying insects.

If you have personally used such devices - be sure to write your review at the bottom of this page.

I eliminated electric fumigators immediately, the smell is a specific chemical. Husband caught fire according to the scheme to make a mosquito-exterminator lamp. In principle, he succeeded, and although she looked inconspicuous, she didn’t get much less mosquitoes. And at the neighbor the purchased exterminator, the view, of course, is much more attractive, but after all it destroys insects in the same way. Why pay more?
