Find out how effective the modern Dichlorvos against cockroaches ...

Next you will find out:

  • How does the old Soviet Dichlorvos differ from modern analogs and is this difference significant from a practical point of view;
  • Whether modern dichlorvos from cockroaches help and what active substances underlie these aerosol preparations;
  • Which brands of Dichlorvos are the most popular today and does it make sense to choose the best among them?
  • What is the mechanism of action of an aerosol on cockroaches - how does it kill them;
  • How to apply Dichlorvos correctly in order to get the maximum effect against cockroaches and what safety measures must be taken into account (including those that you will hardly find in the instructions for the preparation).

It would seem, Dichlofos, confidently occupying the highest step of the podium among all home remedies for cockroaches In the pre-perestroika period, it continues to be actively used in everyday life to this day - you can buy Dichlorvos Varan, Dichlorvos Neo, Eco, Extra, Terminator, etc. on the market. However, in reality today these cockroach aerosols have practically nothing in common with the old Soviet Dichlorvos, who treated the apartment even our grandparents.

Today, insecticidal aerosols sold under the trade name Dichlorvos differ fundamentally from the Soviet drug of the same name.

Perhaps, first of all, it is useful to bear in mind that the old version of the aerosol and its modern substitutes are based on completely different active substances.

Soviet Dichlorvos as the active ingredient contained an organophosphate insecticide called dimethyldichlorovinyl phosphate (abbreviated dichlorvos) - The substance is quite toxic not only for cockroaches and other insects, but also in relation to humans and domestic animals. At the time of the appearance of this tool, there were practically no worthy competitors: more powerful dust was too toxic for humans, and those tools that could be comparable to dichlorvos for safety did not act on cockroaches.

Dimethyldichlorophenyl phosphate (abbreviated dichlorvos)

But the chemical industry did not stand still, and safer to use and at the same time quite effective insecticides of a new type were developed - the era of the so-called pyrethroids came.

On a note

Natural analogues of pyrethroids - pyrethrins - are contained, for example, in the flowers of Dalmatian chamomile. That is why dried and pounded flowers of this plant (pyrethrum powder) have long been used as an effective insect repellent.

It turned out that some pyrethroids are more effective against cockroaches than organophosphate dichlorvos, retain their effect longer and, most importantly, are safer for humans (and some, moreover, have almost no odor). Dichlorvos gradually began to be supplanted by such aerosol preparations for baiting cockroaches like Raptor, Raid, Combat, which contain cypermethrin, deltamethrin, tetramethrin, permethrin, etc.

But the holy name is idle: the memory of the Soviet Dichlorvos lived, and many buyers were looking for him, despite the appearance of imported items on the shelves. Not surprisingly, enterprising manufacturers quickly registered several trademarks and released drugs that combined the famous name and modern insect poisonous components.

Today, there are more than 10 different Dichlorvos for sale ...

Feedback

“Everyone knows that Dichlorvos is the best cure for cockroaches.Ask your grandmothers how they hounded them, and what kind of cockroaches they drove out - huge! I got them even lice taken before. It is clear that everything is changing, our Dichlorvos is another. But the main thing works and the smell is not so sharp. We used to poison our old apartment at my mom, the walls were moving from the cockroaches. And nothing, for two times they took everyone out, for how many years they have not returned ... ”

Irina, Gatchina

So, Dichlorvos was left without dichlorvos itself (more precisely, without dimethyldichlorovinyl phosphate), but at the same time continued to successfully poison cockroaches. How and at the expense of what - let's understand ...

What are modern dichlorvos?

Perhaps, among modern aerosol preparations, having in their name the word “Dichlorvos”, the following are the most popular:

  • Dichlorvos Neo;
  • Varan dichlorvos;
  • Dichlorvos Eco;
  • Dichlorvos Super.

All of them incorporate synthetic pyrethroids and make it possible to poison cockroaches quite successfully (at the same time, it is rather difficult to say which Dichlorvos is better in terms of effectiveness, since the result in practice will be approximately the same in most cases).

Aerosol products based on synthetic pyrethroids are quite effective, and they allow killing cockroaches in an apartment in just a few hours.

In particular, the following components are present in the composition of Dichlorvos Neo:

  1. Permethrin;
  2. Cypermethrin;
  3. Piperonyl butoxide;
  4. Auxiliary components - solvents and fragrances.

Dichlorvos Neo

The active ingredients are almost the same as, for example, in the aerosol from crawling insects Raptor (the latter instead of permethrin contains tetramethrin of similar nature). Instructions for the use of these tools from cockroaches are also almost identical.

On a note

Some of the insecticidal agents include other pyrethroids: vaportrin, lambda-cyhalothrin, allethrin, tau flulyvalinat, tefluthrin, esfenvalerate, etc. Many of them vary greatly in the level of odor generated in the room.

Also known aerosol Dichlofos-L, containing only permethrin and intended for removing lice - respectively, such Dichlofos from cockroaches will be of little use (including because it contains only one active ingredient, which increases the likelihood of drug resistance in the cockroach population). All other dichlorvos most often used against cockroaches.

Feedback

“Cockroaches overcame, there is no life. Brrr, right on the table crawling, for which we eat. I bought myself such an interesting nehlofos neo, it was written that it was odorless, for the price it cost 80 rubles.This aerosol spray is designed to kill flying and crawling insects, sprinkled them all the cockroach loopholes in the kitchen, the smell is actually there, but not strong. Not as strong as it used to be from dichlorvos. We are waiting for the effect ... "

Mechanism of action and effectiveness of modern dichlorvos

The active components of modern dichlorvos (pyrethroids) have a neuroparalytic effect on insects. Once in the body of a cockroach, they lead to disturbances in the transmission of nerve impulses, which rather quickly leads to paralysis and the subsequent death of the pest.

Insecticides that are part of Dichlorvos have a neuroparalytic effect on cockroaches (they lead to paralysis and subsequent death of the insect).

Thus, the main task of a person who processes an apartment with Dichlorvos is to ensure that the drug enters the body of a cockroach. This can happen in the following ways:

  1. When spraying the agent from the balloon to the places where cockroaches accumulate, the smallest particles of insecticidal aerosol penetrate through the spiracles into the respiratory organs of the insect, are absorbed into the hemolymph, spread throughout the body and quickly kill the cockroach;
  2. With the same spraying the drug also gets on the chitinous covers of cockroaches.Pyrethroids have a contact action, and are able to penetrate into the body of an insect through chitinous cover;
  3. Having settled on the surfaces of furniture, floor and walls, particles of active substances remain here for a long time (if wet cleaning is not carried out). Running over them, the cockroach socks their legs and antennae. Already in the shelter, clearing the antennae and the tips of the paws with the jaws, the insect swallows an insecticide that from the stomach penetrates into the hemolymph and leads to poisoning - this is how the intestinal action of the pyrethroids is realized.

Practice shows that Dichlofos really helps from cockroaches, if the situation with these pests is not too neglected (and, at least, if we are talking about the above brand of drug). With proper treatment of the premises, the aerosol allows for the destruction of almost all insects in one procedure, and only if the room is very contaminated it may require repeated disinsection.

If there are a lot of cockroaches in the room, then repeated treatment may be required.

Dichlorvos acts quickly - after the treatment of an apartment, a large part of the cockroach population usually dies within a few hours.

Meanwhile, it is important to keep in mind that most pyrethroids retain their high efficiency on treated surfaces for about 15 days,after which it may decrease due to the gradual decomposition of insecticides in air. Therefore, in accordance with the instructions for use of the drug, in those places where children and pets will not get to the treated surface, after using the product, it is advisable not to carry out wet cleaning, and cockroaches running here for another two or three weeks will be effectively poisoned.

It is interesting

It is known that insects are capable of producing resistance to insecticides (this is especially common in the fight against cockroaches and bed bugs), therefore any modern Dichlorvos contains several different chemical structures of pyrethroids in their composition - the more different preparations of different active substances, the lower the chances cockroaches have to survive after the treatment of the room (it is extremely unlikely that a cockroach population would have resistance to several pyrethroids at once).

Instructions for use

To reliably destroy cockroaches in the room with the help of Dichlorvos, you need to be able to use it properly and take into account the important nuances of the instructions for use of insecticidal agents of aerosol type.

When working with any insecticides, including Dichlorvos, it is important to follow the instructions for use of the product, so that the treatment is effective and is safe for humans and pets.

Before treatment, remove all pets and children from the room, as well as conduct a little preparation:

  1. Tightly cover the aquarium with a cover glass, turn off the compressor so that the air from the room does not get into the water (fish are just as sensitive to the active components of Dichlorvos as cockroaches);
  2. Close windows and doors;
  3. Free all dishes and cabinets that will be processed by the preparation from dishes, foodstuffs and things (all this can be temporarily placed in plastic bags);
  4. Move cabinets, tables, gas stove and refrigerator from the walls;
  5. If additional rooms will be processed - roll up carpets, remove those that hang on the walls, move cabinets, sofas, chairs and other furniture away from the walls.

Products, dishes, children's toys and clothing can be placed in plastic bags before processing.

Dichlorvos treatment of cockroach sites gives a particularly high effect.

After that, the Dichlorvos bottle is thoroughly shaken, the cap is removed from it, the opening for aerosol exit is directed from the handler, and the surface treatment begins.

On a note

The product must be sprayed in the direction of the places of accumulation and possible movement of cockroaches, at some distance from the surfaces, in order to cover a large area.

When destroying cockroaches, first of all, it is necessary to process the baseboards, the space under the sink, the back walls of the kitchen stove, refrigerator and furniture. The more surfaces will be processed, the more likely it will be to completely poison the insects in the room.

Behind the refrigerator and gas stove you can sometimes find literally swarms of cockroaches ...

Feedback

“We arrived in the village for the summer, decided to take a break from the bustle of the city. But here's the problem, the hordes of cockroaches running around here, it takes the horror. I wake up one night, go to drink water, turn on the light - and this abomination is everywhere! Huge hordes on the walls, on the table, run on the floor. And I'm terrified of cockroaches. Husband traveled, bought dikhlofos monitor lizard. They started to spray, so I even felt a terrible smell through the towel, my eyes were pinched to tears, and there was a nasty taste in my mouth. And her husband became red like a tomato, and by morning the temperature had risen to 39. In short, they also poisoned cockroaches, and they themselves almost died. And the cockroaches were sweating in the corners, but some still survived. ”

Olga Pavlovna, Tolyatti

As a rule, one Dichlofos bottle is enough for processing from cockroaches of one small room with furniture (about 15 square meters). If you need to poison the cockroaches in the kitchen and in the rooms, you should use several cylinders of funds.

Immediately after surface treatment, it is advisable to leave the apartment for 2-3 hours (although this may not be written in the instructions for use).After returning, it is necessary to open windows and doors, thoroughly ventilate the premises and carry out wet cleaning, wiping those surfaces on which there will be food in the future and with which people or pets can contact.

Important!

Even after a properly carried out treatment, cockroaches may not completely disappear - some of them hide during the day outside the apartment, and some may migrate from their neighbors. If immediately after the use of Dichlorvos, live insects were not visible in the apartment, and after 2-3 weeks the cockroaches again began to catch the eye - this is a sure sign that pests penetrate the room from the outside. In this case, it is useful to do overlapping the paths of their entry into the apartment (grids on the ventilation holes, sealing the cavities behind the sockets bordering neighboring apartments, sealing the gaps in the walls, ceilings, etc.)

It is also advisable to use gels from cockroaches and prophylactic agents (traps, insecticide crayons) in parallel with Dichlorvos, which will kill individual individuals that survived the treatment, if any.

In addition to Dichlorvos it is useful to use gel from cockroaches.

The photo shows an example of the use of insecticidal chalk in the kitchen.

And also useful glue traps.

If you do not rely entirely on only Dichlorvos,and to approach the solution of the problem with cockroaches in a complex, then with a high degree of probability the cockroaches will be completely destroyed in the apartment, and will not return soon.

Safety rules when working with Dichlorvos

Although modern dichlorvos is much safer to use than its predecessor, they are still quite toxic (like most insecticides in general), and you must follow certain safety measures when working with them. Not all of these measures are spelled out in the instructions, but compliance with them will help avoid poisoning and a number of other very undesirable consequences.

It should be borne in mind that the components of Dichlorvos are quite toxic.

Here are some of these measures:

  1. Processing should be carried out in clothing that covers most of the body, including arms and legs. This minimizes contact of the poisonous substance with the skin;
  2. It is imperative to provide protection against the ingress of funds into the airways. The ideal option would be an industrial respirator, although you can also use a thick cotton-gauze bandage. Keep in mind that if when you treat an apartment with Dichlorvos you feel a sore throat or an unpleasant taste in your mouth, then this means that your respiratory organs are not sufficiently protected;
  3. At the first signs of deterioration of well-being (redness, shortness of breath, rash, etc.), you should immediately stop working and get out into the fresh air. You should not tolerate and continue to work with the thought - they say, there is still a little bit left;
  4. Keep in mind that some pyrethroids are highly toxic to cats. It is advisable to take these animals away from the apartment for a couple of days. In addition, cats should not eat cockroaches killed or disoriented by Dichlorvos, since an animal can also receive a certain dose of insecticide (the first signs of cat poisoning with pyrethroids are excessive salivation and tremor);Cats or dogs should not be allowed to eat cockroaches poisoned with Dichlorvos.
  5. Do not spray Dichlofos into the technical holes of the electronics (TV, computer system unit, laptop, etc.), even if you are sure that cockroaches are hidden inside the case. In some cases, the impact of individual components of the aerosol may adversely affect the operation of high-precision devices.Do not direct the spray into the openings of electronic devices.

“It was last summer. Even before that, I sometimes saw cockroaches at home, but rarely and only in the bathroom, where they appeared from ventilation. And then they suddenly began to fall in such numbers throughout the kitchen, that I was already scared.Every day I saw about ten of them; in the bedside table under the sink their whole herd lived. And not only the Prussians, but also healthy ones, such black ones, which are terrible to press directly. I think these neighbors top off at home. Went, asked, truly so. He asked what they hounded. Dichlorvos. It was strange, I thought, this remedy had already sunk into oblivion. But no, in the bazaar I bought three Dikhlofos Super bottles, a half-day apartment was pshikal, I was sick already once from this nastiness. But the cockroaches seemed to be even worse. When I started to get out, they were piled on bedside tables, some were still twitching, but it was obvious that they were playing in a box. He did everything according to science, he did not wash the back walls of the cabinets. Almost a year has passed, and I have not seen a single cockroach. Probably their remnants went to the neighbors below. So in the basement they pens. "

    We poison cockroaches periodically, once in 3-4 months they come from their neighbors again. From personal experience: all means are good, absolutely. But cockroaches still crawling from their neighbors. And at home it is clean, I clean everything, but alone I cannot cope with this infection. Neighbors do not want to hear about the persecution, they are “all right”. Citizens from neighboring countries ((
