Perhaps, first of all, it is useful to bear in mind that the old version of the aerosol and its modern substitutes are based on completely different active substances.

Soviet Dichlorvos as the active ingredient contained an organophosphate insecticide called dimethyldichlorovinyl phosphate (abbreviated dichlorvos) - The substance is quite toxic not only for cockroaches and other insects, but also in relation to humans and domestic animals. At the time of the appearance of this tool, there were practically no worthy competitors: more powerful dust was too toxic for humans, and those tools that could be comparable to dichlorvos for safety did not act on cockroaches.

But the chemical industry did not stand still, and safer to use and at the same time quite effective insecticides of a new type were developed - the era of the so-called pyrethroids came.

Natural analogues of pyrethroids - pyrethrins - are contained, for example, in the flowers of Dalmatian chamomile. That is why dried and pounded flowers of this plant (pyrethrum powder) have long been used as an effective insect repellent.

It turned out that some pyrethroids are more effective against cockroaches than organophosphate dichlorvos, retain their effect longer and, most importantly, are safer for humans (and some, moreover, have almost no odor). Dichlorvos gradually began to be supplanted by such aerosol preparations for baiting cockroaches like Raptor, Raid, Combat, which contain cypermethrin, deltamethrin, tetramethrin, permethrin, etc.

But the holy name is idle: the memory of the Soviet Dichlorvos lived, and many buyers were looking for him, despite the appearance of imported items on the shelves. In particular, the following components are present in the composition of Dichlorvos Neo:

1. Permethrin;
2. Cypermethrin;
3. Piperonyl butoxide;
4. Auxiliary components - solvents and fragrances.

The active ingredients are almost the same as, for example, in the aerosol from crawling insects Raptor (the latter instead of permethrin contains tetramethrin of similar nature). Instructions for the use of these tools from cockroaches are also almost identical.

Mechanism of action and effectiveness of modern dichlorvos

Practice shows that Dichlofos really helps from cockroaches, if the situation with these pests is not too neglected (and, at least, if we are talking about the above brand of drug). With proper treatment of the premises, the aerosol allows for the destruction of almost all insects in one procedure, and only if the room is very contaminated it may require repeated disinsection.

Dichlorvos acts quickly - after the treatment of an apartment, a large part of the cockroach population usually dies within a few hours.

Meanwhile, it is important to keep in mind that most pyrethroids retain their high efficiency on treated surfaces for about 15 days,after which it may decrease due to the gradual decomposition of insecticides in air. Therefore, in accordance with the instructions for use of the drug, in those places where children and pets will not get to the treated surface, after using the product, it is advisable not to carry out wet cleaning, and cockroaches running here for another two or three weeks will be effectively poisoned.

Instructions for use

To reliably destroy cockroaches in the room with the help of Dichlorvos, you need to be able to use it properly and take into account the important nuances of the instructions for use of insecticidal agents of aerosol type.

Before treatment, remove all pets and children from the room, as well as conduct a little preparation:

1. Tightly cover the aquarium with a cover glass, turn off the compressor so that the air from the room does not get into the water (fish are just as sensitive to the active components of Dichlorvos as cockroaches);
2. Close windows and doors;
3. Free all dishes and cabinets that will be processed by the preparation from dishes, foodstuffs and things (all this can be temporarily placed in plastic bags);
4. Move cabinets, tables, gas stove and refrigerator from the walls;
5. If additional rooms will be processed - roll up carpets, remove those that hang on the walls, move cabinets, sofas, chairs and other furniture away from the walls.

Safety rules when working with Dichlorvos

5. Do not spray Dichlofos into the technical holes of the electronics (TV, computer system unit, laptop, etc.), even if you are sure that cockroaches are hidden inside the case. In some cases, the impact of individual components of the aerosol may adversely affect the operation of high-precision devices.
