What does a green bug look like and is it worth being afraid of

Green bug (otherwise - woody or shishnik)

The green tree bug is a rather rare guest in a human home, since it is not a human parasite and does not need anything in the house. This green insect is well known for its unpleasant pronounced smell: that is why the tree shielder got its second name - “stink bug”.

It is possible to detect a bug that has accidentally flown into an apartment only in the summer, when insects actively reproduce and spread to new places.

What does a green woody tree look like?

The whole family of true shields has one characteristic feature by which they are distinguished from other bugs: sharp angular tips in the front part of the body (see photo):

The body of the green bug has a characteristic angular shape in the chest.

They somewhat resemble folded wings and give the insects the very shape of the shield for which they got their name. In the lower part of the back you can see the dark brown membrane of the wings.

Woodbug green woody It is distinguished by its characteristic color of spring greenery, which under the belly can turn into yellowness. Closer to the fall, dark brown specks begin to appear on the back of the bug, and by the onset of the first cold weather it becomes completely brown to merge with the surrounding space.

The wings of the woody scab are rather short and have a very small span. On the head there are rather long antennae, each consisting of 4 segments (the 2nd and 3rd of them are absolutely the same length). What a green bug looks like can be seen in the photo below:

Bedbug eggs resemble light green balls with a lid, and the larvae change color several times during shedding: at the first stage they are characterized by a light brown color, then black-green or even black, and at the final stage the nymphs get a beautiful lime color as imago. The only thing that distinguishes a light green nymph from an adult insect is the absence of wings.

Feedback

“Green bugs constantly flew into our apartment in the summer. Rather massive, and the shape seems to be even rectangular, but narrows downwards. When one of these was accidentally crushed (they literally crawled under their feet), they felt a terrible stench. Only then it became clear that this is a real stink bug.

Insect lifestyle

In winter, green tree bugs are in hibernation, close to the state of anabiosis. For this period, they prefer to look for reliable shelters - deciduous litter in the forest, rotten trees or stumps, burrows and spaces under the stones.

With the onset of heat (approximately in April-May), the shields are distributed over areas where there are plants suitable for feeding. Since the food of bedbugs is mainly composed of the juices of plants and their fruits, most often they settle on fruit trees and shrubs: raspberries, elder, cherry. Can live on ordinary deciduous trees, as well as directly in the grass.

Although green bugs have wings, they rarely use them, and only fly when absolutely necessary: if they are sure that on arrival they will have a suitable plant for feeding, or is this the only way to escape from predators.

It is interesting

If you notice a bug on a branch and try to approach it, it will not run away and fly away, but will try to shift to the opposite side of the branch from the observer. Therefore, the shield is so difficult to photograph - in all frames it is visible from below behind a branch or blade of grass.

The bugs cannot penetrate the hard bark of the tree, therefore they feed on leaves, grassy plants, sometimes buds and flowers. Sometimes even cereal crops can be damaged, but this rarely happens. Human bug does not bite even in case of danger.

Green bugs in an apartment are an accident, since they do not breed in captivity and soon die. For a person, a woody shushnik is absolutely not dangerous, therefore its detection in a dwelling does not threaten anything.

Breeding bedbug begins immediately after the development of a new place of residence. In one laying, the female can reproduce into the light 20-40 small bugs. Already a couple of weeks after maturation in the shell of the egg, the bugs are ready to go outside.

Small larvae (nymphs) have four developmental cycles, each of which is accompanied by shedding and color change.

It is interesting

Scientists have discovered that the Japanese green tree bug related to the green shielder has maternal instincts. It was found that the female bug each day brings the larvae of the berries of the olax tree there.Until the larvae were fully developed in the imago, about 100 seedlings of woody fruits could be found in the habitat of the bugs. Sometimes a caring mother steals such fruit from foreign nests.

Methods of dealing with green woody shield

The green tree bug is not a real garden-field pest that can cause great damage to the crop. But at the same time, living on berry or herbal crops, the shielder damages the leaves, fruits and berries, reducing their total number.

The green bug is not a dangerous pest of gardens

In addition, the fruits “bitten” by the bug will have a characteristic unpleasant smell. Such a product no longer wants to eat or use for conservation.

To get rid of wood bugs in the garden or garden can be in the following ways:

  • Mechanical. If there are few bugs in the plot, you can manually assemble them using a bucket or another container. This method is a little inconvenient, since green bugs on plants are almost imperceptible - their color is an excellent disguise. In addition, there is always the risk of missing a few females who can breed further and spoil the fruits again.
  • Traditional, with the help of folk recipes. This option is very effective because of its impact on pests and complete safety for humans and crops. In addition, its use requires almost no financial investments. It is possible to prepare the majority of solutions independently, without having any special skills. Here are some recipes:

Onion infusion: 200 g of onion peel poured 10 liters of hot water and infused for 5 days. After that, the solution is filtered, poured into bottles with a spray and sprayed on plants affected by bedbugs. To achieve the best result, it is advised to spray the area 2-3 times with intervals of 5 days.

Mustard solution: in 0.5 l of warm water 100 g of dry mustard is diluted. Why to the mixture is added 9.5 liters of water. This solution should be sprayed with plants in the same way as in the previous recipe.

Klopogon plant (tsimitsifuga). This ornamental garden plant scares off everything very effectively. species of herbivorous bugs. It is enough to plant several bushes in different parts of the garden or backyard, and the shields will bypass the site.

  • Chemical control method. This method involves the use of powerful industrial insecticides: Karbofos, Chlorophos, Fosfamida and others. Such tools are very effective at destroying pests, but require special care in the use and use of personal protective equipment. The chemical method of control is recommended to use in cases where the number of wood bugs is very high, and they really threaten plantings, which happens very rarely.

Green bug in the apartment does not require special measures to combat it. The insect that flies by accident is the easiest way to throw it out the window - it will not return anymore.

Green tree bugs are not included in the list of dangerous pests of food crops; therefore, they do not carry out comprehensive control of them. For a person, a collision with this kind of shield also does not bear any consequences, it is absolutely safe, and if you do not touch it, it will not even cause unpleasant sensations.
