Non-insect victims of bugs or the involuntary “breadwinner” of cockroaches may even confuse the larvae of these insects. Indeed, externally, bugs and cockroaches are quite similar, and their nymphs (young larvae) especially strongly resemble each other.
But these two groups of insects are evolutionarily and morphologically very different both in the way of feeding and in the way of life. Accordingly, the destruction of bedbugs and cockroaches is a different task and requires a certain knowledge of the specifics of the biology of these parasites.
On a note
In general, in nature, bugs are insects that have adapted to feeding on various liquid and semi-liquid substances. During evolution, the bugs' jaws turned into long proboscis, with which pests suck out juices or cavity fluids from their food objects.
Much of the species of bedbugs feed on plant sap, some (for example, water strider bugs) - almost completely the insides of other insects and small fish are sucked out. And some species, in particular, the well-known bed bug, learned to feed on the blood of animals.
Cockroaches, by the way, together with eccentric-looking mantis, are part of the squad cockroach-like. They usually do not pose a direct danger to humans, but some of their species are constant companions of man, adapted to feeding on food debris.
Bedbugs - terrible and difficult to remove
It is with the specifics of feeding on bedbugs that all the difficulties in their breeding are related: to feed them with poisoned dust or tasty balls with boric acid, which is very effective against cockroaches, will not work: they will not be amazed by crawling on insecticide. The bug will not eat poison.
therefore poison the bedbug in one of two ways:
- spray around it insecticidal spray or spray, which will penetrate into the insect with air. Today there are a lot of such products available - Raptor from bedbugs, Combat, Dichlorvos of different brands.
- It is also possible to treat the places of dislocation of bedbugs with contact-action insecticides - these substances, sticking to the foot or body of the parasite, penetrate through its outer chitinous integuments into the body and lead to poisoning. Such insecticides are some organophosphorus compounds - karbofos (malathion), chlorpyrifos, dichlorvos itself, and others.
Important!
Today's "Dichlorvos" no longer contain the organophosphate insecticide of the same name. Compared with the Soviet version of the drug, their composition has become completely different, safer for humans. As a rule, modern aerosols under the brand name "Dichlorvos" contain synthetic pyrethroids.
Another feature of bed bugs is the resistance of their eggs to many insecticidal agents. Even if adult bugs and their larvae are exterminated indoors, the eggs laid by the parasites remain intact. A week or two of them hatch new larvae that can give life to a new population.
No matter how hard the manufacturers try to praise their products, the vast majority of insecticidal products bedbug eggs does not destroy.
Finally, the bug is an insect with a short cycle of reproduction and great fecundity. Each female lays up to 500 eggs in her life, and after 1.5-2 months (in optimal conditions - and after 30 days), the laid egg turns into an adult insect, ready for breeding.
This means that, due to random mutations, bugs can quickly develop resistance to many insecticides. There are often situations when certain means for bed bugs destruction have no effect on them, and you have to use an alternative drug.
On a note
An important role in increasing the resistance of bugs to insecticides is played by the parasite fighters themselves. The more often and illiterately a particular substance is used (that is, when it is not completed, and some of the bugs survive), the more likely it is that individuals will be able to adapt to the poison and reward their offspring with this resistance. That is why the development of means to combat bedbugs and the development of the latter’s resistance to such means is a kind of arms race in which man has not particularly succeeded.
What are cockroaches afraid of?
Cockroaches - insects are more vulnerable than bugs, if only because they eat almost everything that comes their way. Cockroaches have powerful gnawing jaws, which allows them to use in food substances that are comparable in density to wood. In addition, cockroaches may well feed on organics that are completely inedible for humans — shoe cream, adhesives, paper — and therefore, by the way, they survive even far from a person or with his long absence.
Respectively, extermination of cockroaches can be carried out by means of the taste and smell of ordinary products, but containing a poisoned filling. This greatly simplifies the fight against parasites - with a weak infection of the room, the balls spread out in the right places from the dough and boric acid will allow removing pests without a complete treatment of the room.
On a note
But the statement that cockroaches eat bedbugs is a myth - in very rare cases, cockroaches can only eat chitin residues from molted bugs or their eggs. However, in the room, these insects are extremely rare, and therefore such cases are rather the exception to the rule.
Of course, as a biological weapon cockroaches anti bugs cannot be used. But tiny "Home" pharaoh ants - Just excellent enemies of bedbugs: the latter are killed by the acid secreted by the ants, and even a few tiny ants may well kill an adult bug.
Cockroaches are afraid the same substances to which bugs are susceptible, and in addition they die from boric acid, borax, various insecticidal dusts and crayons. They are afraid of some folk remedies such as wormwood, tansy, vinegar, alcohol, only in high concentrations.
For insect extermination It is not necessary to choose the chemical remedy for bugs and cockroaches - you can destroy these insects using other methods.
Heat and cold against pests
Extermination of cockroaches and bedbugs can be carried out by thermal methods. For example, bedbugs die quickly at temperatures below minus 25 ° C and above + 50 ° C.
Cockroaches are less resistant to temperatures: for them, 5-degree frost is deadly and temperatures above + 45 ° C. It is widely used in folk pest control methods as well as special disinsection services.
Parasites can be frozen out independently in non-residential premises or where there is no threat of destruction of the heating and water supply systems at too low temperatures. Obviously, this should be done in those regions and in such seasons when the temperature outside falls below 20 ° C.
Some pest control services to control insect parasites have special facilities with liquid nitrogen or carbon dioxide. However, such tools are of limited use - they process only large and easily accessible nests of parasites.
More effectively, pest control kills bugs and cockroaches with the help of industrial fan heaters. Such installations allow you to quickly heat the air in the room to 50-60 °, after which all the cockroaches and bugs will die here within half an hour. However, such treatment is almost always more expensive than similar treatment using insecticidal agents.
Independently bring out the bugs in the summer by closing the apartment and relying on its warming by the sun’s rays will not work. It is only sometimes practiced to destroy bedbugs on contaminated clothes or bedding, putting things in a closed car, left for several hours in the sun (this method works quite well).
How to destroy bedbugs and cockroaches at the same time?
As a rule, with the total treatment of the room with aerosol insecticides from bugs, all insects perish in it - bugs, cockroaches, and ants with moths. A similar effect is observed when frying the room or using organophosphorus agents such as karbofos.
But when killing cockroaches with gels, borax or boric acid, bugs in an apartment always survive.
Destroying bedbugs and cockroaches at the same time, it should be remembered that these insects lodge and hide in different places. Cockroaches prefer corners, bedside tables, spaces behind plinths in kitchens, in storerooms and closets - where they can easily get to stocks of food and garbage. Bedbugs lodge mainly in bedrooms, furniture, behind carpets on the walls, in closets - closer to the places of human rest.
When killing cockroaches and bedbugs with equal care, all possible places of refuge for these insects should be treated. For this purpose, you can use, for example, the following tools:
- Get insect repellent
- Executioner
- Avalon
- Delta Zone
- Medilis Tsiper
- Digox
- Cucaracha.
And be sure to remember that if the cockroaches after a thorough treatment of the room are derived, for sure and completely, the bugs may appear again in a few days. The reason for this are the larvae gradually hatching from the surviving eggs. Therefore, in such cases it is worth being prepared for the second act of struggle.
On a note
Sometimes anti-bugs and cockroaches recommend glue traps, to which insects simply stick. However, if against such a small number of cockroaches such traps can give a result, then it’s impossible to cope with bugs: you can’t get them into traps with a pleasantly smelling bait, and it’s quite problematic to place traps on all places of bugs moving.
Means, useless for breeding cockroaches and bedbugs
There are methods and means that are not only advertised, but also widely known among the people, as effective against bedbugs and cockroaches, but in practice they appear to be empty.
Among them:
- Ultrasonic, Electromagnetic and Magnetic Resonance bug bugs and cockroaches. Practice shows (and special experiments), and bugs and cockroaches safely ignore such tools.
- Strong-smelling herbs - they can only temporarily reduce the activity of insects and protect the premises from penetrating into them. However, if the bugs and cockroaches in the apartment are already firmly established, neither tansy, nor wormwood with lavender will allow to get rid of parasites.
- Plots and prayers from cockroaches and bedbugs (you will be surprised, but they are still actively used in the villages). Here, perhaps, without comment. Still, the times are not the same ...
Attempts to starve insects will also be ineffective: bugs can survive without food for months, and even cockroaches can eat for a long time even in a long-abandoned apartment. It is not surprising that even at dachas visited three weeks a year, it is necessary to destroy bedbugs and cockroaches with the same regularity as in permanently inhabited buildings.
Work independently or entrust disinsection to professionals?
If both bugs and cockroaches live indoors, then perhaps you should still turn to professional exterminators. Processing the apartment in this case will require increased amounts of insecticides and will be somewhat more laborious.
Professionals in this case will cope faster, and the cost of their work will not be much higher than the price of an insecticide and the time spent on self-destruction of parasites.
On a note
The price of disinsection services of a one-room apartment in Moscow or St. Petersburg is from 1,200 to 2,000 rubles. For example, about 1,200 rubles is a set of bottles of the Executioner, which will be enough to handle the same apartment.
But the main thing that disinsectors provide is the guarantee that insects will not appear in the house for a certain period of time. This is very important, and especially for this city are famous SES. Therefore, if there is no particularly burning desire to remove parasites from the premises on their own, then it is worth contacting professionals.
